A Nightmare of a Weekend

I'm starting not with food, but with Violet, as I did a couple months ago. She'd been doing pretty good since then but yesterday she took a serious and sudden turn for the worse. We knew she had some respiratory problems but yesterday she started having a lot of trouble breathing. We took her to the emergency vet and they put her on oxygen and that helped. Then we had to take her (with a portable oxygen tank) back to the specialist in Richmond, an hour's drive away. She's still there now and she's doing a little better but we miss her terribly. We were able to visit her a couple of times today but only for 5-10 minutes each time since she's in the ICU in an oxygen chamber. She seems to be doing a little better today but we don't know when (or even if) we'll be able to bring her home. We don't have a positive diagnosis but we'll get another update from the vet tomorrow morning. There's a lot more to the story but I think I'll have to leave it at that for now.

We're still cooking since it's a diversion so I'll leave you with the okra stew we made tonight. There are a couple other pics that may show up here at some point but now I think it's off to bed since we didn't get much sleep last night. We'll try to keep you posted on Violet but I don't know how much we'll have the energy to post over the next few days.

Oh Chris & Darlene,
My heart is going out to you with so much concern! I'll hope for the best for you and for sweet Violet, who is such a beautiful kitty. These little animals are so sweet and fragile and delicate, and it is such a miracle that they grant us their trust. I hope that you can do what is best for her, and that your hearts can feel good about your choices.
Yours in kitty-ness,
Amey

I'm so sorry about Violet, she is a beautiful kitty and it is so sad to hear she isn't well. She iss very fortunate that you are willing to do everything you can to get her better - it must be so frustrating to know that you are happy to do that but not be able to due to lack of diagnosis.
I hope with all my heart she gets better soon.

I'm sorry to hear about Violet. :( I know people at VRCC and the VEC (I used to be a LVT) and they are wonderful at what they do. If you need a place to take a break while you're visiting, my house is between C'ville and R'md (not too far from VRCC actually) and if you wouldn't feel to odd, you're welcome to stop by and even take a nap if you need to. (You'd have to share the bed with pugs, just to warn ya). You can email me at dibranchia at gmail dot com

Thanks so much for the offer Lady Di and thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. We just got back from visiting Violet and she's doing better and has been completely off the oxygen all day today. Her ordeal is still probably far from over but so far so good.

Thanks so much everyone for all of your wonderful comments and support. It means a lot to us to know that we have people out there thinking good thoughts for our little Violet. We got to spend about a half and hour with her last night and she is doing a lot better. So good to see her. We just need to keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best. The people working at the critical care hospital are so great, so we are very lucky to have such a great facility so close. Looking forward to bringing her home soon. Thanks again everyone.
