Cookies Galore!

Darlene spent the better part of today baking cookies that we'll donate to the Vegetarian Festival tomorrow where they'll be sold to benefit a local spay-neuter program. She made the Peanut "Better" Cookies and Coconut-Lime Cookies (only with lemon instead of lime) from Vive le Vegan! and a slightly modified version of the Chocolate Chip Cookies from Vegan with a Vengeance. Of course we had to sample some ourselves to make sure they're fit for consumption. After that all we needed was a relatively light dinner so we walked downtown for a slice of pizza at Christian's.

Dreena graciously gave us permission to re-print the Peanut "Better" Cookie recipe so anyone getting one of those cookies will also get the recipe. Of course there are rules and regulations about these kinds of things and they all had to be wrapped up in plastic but Darlene did a wonderful job of packaging them, complete with colorful labels. So if you're nearby stop by the festival tomorrow for a delicious vegan cookie along with lots of other good stuff.

(Here are the cookies all wrapped up.)

I just got off the phone with my mom (who is a new vegetarian, mostly, and lives in Louisa) and let her know about the Festival.

She's extremely excited to check it out and be around like minded people for a change. I know that, lately, she's felt like the oddball veggie at work what with everyone giving her a hard time for her food choices in the breakroom.

This should certainly help her and give her something fun to to tomorrow! Thnanks so much for the info! wish I didn't live so far away!

I live in New York City, but was in Charlottesville participating in a chamber music festival last year just at this time and went to the festival. It was great! What a nice feeling, and so much information and, of course, great food. I'm so glad you're participating and bravo on the cookies. I wish I could come again this year!

dgmgv - I'm glad your mom's starting down the veg. path. Too bad she's not getting any support from work. You might suggest that she read the book Vegan Freak and/or check out their forums for advice on how to deal with situations like people talking smack at work. I'm sure there are many other resources on-line too for support and advice and I hope she starts getting more support from those around her. At least she's got you ;-)

Hi Bazu! I'm really partial to chocolate chip, but the coconut-lime are a bit different and really good too. Darlene likes to make them with lemon but either way they're great.

Thanks Johanna. We did. All the great food especially.

Mark you're certainly not lacking for vegan food options in NYC but this is the one day a year when we're not here either. Funny, I wish we could come to the City and hang out for a while. We get up there every once in a while but it's been a long time since we last went.

Indeed they do Geraldine. Especially since we just had salad for dinner with a poppy seed dressing ;-)
