Making Hash Browns

We really wanted to get a video camera for when baby arrives (he's not here yet but it could be any day now), so not long ago we splurged and got a Flip. It's actually inexpensive compared to most other video cameras and it's pretty fun and easy to use. So far we've mostly used it for recording the cats but today we tried our hand at making a cooking video. I'd need a lot more practice before going on The Next Food Network Star, but here's my first ever attempt at making a cooking video.

(I forgot to mention that if you're not sure about the whole flipping it in the air thing, you could use a smaller skillet and big spatula or break it up into smaller pieces in the big skillet.)

I so have breakfast plans for tomorrow thanks to you!

You should make "humph, that's good" your tagline at the end of each webisode :)

I love your kitchen cabinets!

I've never been brave enough to flip my hashbrowns. You make it look so easy!

You're a real natural in front of the camera. Hope to see more videos!

Coincidentally, I made hash browns last night in the hopes of doing a tutorial on making them fat-free for my blog. This time, though, I couldn't even get them out of the pan with a spatula w/o falling apart, so I'm really impressed with your flip! We also had scrambled tofu (as a burrito filling). Vegan minds think alike!

CHRIS!
This is so super fun! You are a total pro with that hashbrown flipping move! Wow.

I have nothing but a long and miserable sequence of failures when it comes to hashbrowns, so this is a great idea for a video.

Video on blogs is so fun. Ever since I did my silly little crepe video, I've been trying to think of more reasons to put video up online. This rules!!

Great video! I always figured hash browns had to be drowning in oil so I've never tried them, now I totally will.

Your blog is one of my favorites, I'm linking to it from mine (just started last night).

Wow! Those hash browns would have totally flew up in my face or on the floor if I tried that! Good job!

I think you're ready for the Food Network now.

The hashbrowns look great. You reminded me how much I love hashbrowns and that I better make some soon!

I think you definitely should go out for the Food Network!

Awesome video Chris. I've been thinking about getting a flip and I'm impressed with the quality of the output. What did you use to splice the pieces together?

Thank you all for the kind words!

river2sea - I used the software that comes with the Flip. It's very basic but it does the job.

Damn you and your spiffy video! I had never even heard of the flip until I read this post and now I've gone and ordered one. :-)

Well done video; I don't think I've ever made hash browns before but now I might just have to try...

Hysterical video!I hope you keep practicing and try out for Next Food Network Star. We need a vegan out there!

You made flipping those hash browns look so easy. Did you have to practice that a lot?
